Welcome to Branch and Bloom

This is more than genealogy, it’s a living journey of healing, connection, and celebration.

Branch and Bloom is a community where we build a beautiful life rooted in heritage. This space is built around four core elements: humanizing our ancestors, exploring Black subgroups and histories, discovering Black films, and bringing cultural practices into everyday life.

Here, I document my journey as I trace my ancestry across the Northeast and the American South by searching through historical records, visiting archives, and uncovering untold family stories along the way.

Through storytelling, design, and research, my goal is to help others better understand their family histories while finding meaningful and creative ways to incorporate Black cultural practices into daily life.

Hi! 👋🏽 I’m Quéla

I’m Quéla, the mind behind Branch and Bloom. As a proud descendant of Gullah Geechee and Haitian heritage, my work is deeply personal. Drawing from my background as both an artist and an educator, I pour my heart into my content. I believe genealogy isn’t just research, it’s a form of art that I enjoy when transforming records and memories into vivid, lasting images. In addition to genealogy I am deeply passionate about supporting Black artists, actors, and film makers. I love to create and share watchlists and my own film pitches with my three fur babies by my side.
